Work Experience
Work experience gives students an opportunity to explore their interests, understand workplace expectations and discover how their learning connects with life beyond school.
As Mary Help of Christians Catholic College prepares to welcome its first Year 10 cohort in 2028, we are developing a work experience program for students in Year 10 and above.
Learning through experience
Through structured, unpaid workplace placements, students will have opportunities to observe working life and participate in suitable activities. These experiences will help students to:
- Explore occupations and industries that interest them.
- Develop communication, teamwork and personal responsibility.
- Understand workplace routines and expectations.
- Reflect on their strengths, interests and future options.
Students do not need to have a particular career in mind to benefit from work experience. Discovering what interests them—and what feels less suited to them—can help inform their next steps.
Connecting with Future Forward
In Year 10, work experience will support the Know → Experience → Decide → Act approach of our Future Forward signature subject.
Preparing for a placement and reflecting afterwards will help students connect their experiences with decisions about senior subjects, further education, training and employment.
Preparing for 2028
Further information about the program, including timing, participation requirements, placement arrangements and preparation, will be shared with families as planning progresses.
